[Action required] Secure your Statuspage experience with new API keys

G'day Sirah,

We are reaching out to share an important update regarding the authentication process for Statuspage APIs.

Statuspage currently uses API keys that are generated and managed internally. To enhance the security of these keys, we are implementing a new method for their creation and management. Your current API keys will continue to function until January 31, 2026. We ask that you transition to new API keys and replace your old keys with the newly created ones before this date.

How do you replace your current API key?

  1. Select your avatar from the bottom left of the management screen.
  2. Select API info from the menu that appears.
  3. Select Create key.
  4. Enter a key name.
    • This name appears in the activity log and some integration messages, so it's helpful to give the key a descriptive name to identify which application is using it.
  5. Select the Copy icon to copy the API key to be used.
  6. Select Confirm.
  7. Replace your old key with this new key.

What's changing post 31st January, 2026?

  1. Query parameter support: Support for including api_key in query parameters will be discontinued. It will only be permitted in the headers.
  2. Copying API keys: Customers will now have the ability to copy API keys only at the time of creation. The option to copy from the API key list will be removed.
  3. Token expiration dates: We are introducing token expiration dates. Customers can now configure API keys expire within a range of 1 to 365 days.
  4. API key display: The method for listing API keys will be updated and API keys will no longer be shown in plain text.
  5. Renaming API keys: The functionality to rename API keys will be removed. Customers will only have the option to delete keys.
